I was immediately struck when I first stumbled on Austin TX based artist Chad Merritt’s stunning silhouettes created in the Victorian tradition of paper cutting.  Despite the simplicity of the shapes of the images, I imagined Chad bent over a lace covered table conjuring these striking images with antique scissors and sharp blades. With a keen eye for converging magic and the occult with the notion of personal narrative, the works seem at home in fairytale books just as much as in my darkened rooms.
